Bart's from Tulsa, and quit his day job as a car financier about five years ago to focus on his site and now makes his living from subscriptions to his radio show, donations and selling merchandise trashing republicans and promoting both democrats and himself. He designed the WPE logo and promotes the sales by posting photos of his readers wearing the shirt. Three years ago I bought one of them and he shipped it out along with a nice little hand-written note of thanks. This was around the same time I purchased my current home, and one of the first things I did after moving in was to have The Boy take a photo of me and Ngazi in our new driveway with me wearing the shirt. I sent in the photo and he posted it on his site. Here's the image I sent in:
I was 25 pounds heavier back then.
Now, as it happens, my new next door neighbors, Rob and Lisa (that's their fence in the background), had moved in just a few months before me and both of them turned out to be marine biologists, which was pretty strange since there really aren't a lot of us around, even in the Ocean State. Naturally we got along quite well. This past summer Lisa got a job offer with a company in the Florida Keys and, being an offer they couldn't refuse, I mean we're talking about living in Margaritaville after all, they sold their house and relocated. I haven't seen either one of them since.
Now things get a bit weird. I haven't visited Bart's site in nearly a year, being busy as a Bokononist with other things, plus now there are so many blogs and so little time, and then him being a tireless promoter of Hillary for President, which is fine and all but got to be a bit tiresome. So last night I decided to click his link on my peepsroll to see what he had to say about the election. "Peeps", by the way, are bloggers who at least fairly regularly post here at the BB. Although Bart's never commented, we have emailed quite a bit over the years and have spoken a few times by phone.
Anyway, I'm reading through his site and get down to the part where he promotes the shirt. That day's reader photo was sent in by a guy who calls himself "Cayono", and it was taken at a Key West Halloween Party. Here's the photo of Cayono with a woman dressed as Sarah Palin:
I'm looking at the photo thinking "holy crap, that's Lisa!" A quick email confirmed it and she said it was taken at a party following the annual "Fantasy Fest" parade in Key West. The wink and the wig were a nice touch, I thought. She also mentioned that the parade story was picked up by the A.P. and the Charlotte Observer, which posted a photo gallery on their site. The second image on the Observer's slide show is Lisa walking in the parade with "John McCain" and a Secret Service guy. Notice the price tag on the skirt.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program, and since it is Tuesday then it must be time for some Coonhound Blogging. Here's me and Creole doing some kind of training thing in an attempt to complete the goals of her fourth and final level of dog class. Once she graduates this course we will be moving on to "canine good citizenship training", which, once completed, will allow her to be certified as a therapy dog so we can volunteer to visit patients in hospitals and nursing homes. This was the trainer's idea, based on Creole's temperament and obedience skills, not mine. But it might turn out to be a rewarding experience. Although I need another time commitment in my life like we need another Bush term. This was taken last Tuesday since I still have the little "I voted" sticker on my shirt. Click image to embiggen.
