Sam Harris presents The Fireplace Delusion, his exercise which creates an analogy that atheists and other non-believers can use to try to understand why theists have such a tough time abandoning articles of faith in the face of scientific evidence that those ideas are wrong. It’s an imperfect analogy and it didn’t produce the desired effect on me (I actually agree with most of it), but it’s an interesting attempt.
