I bought these glass hermit crab shells online, but my crabs won’t go into them. I guess they only work for land crabs. However, my octopus (his name is Opal) loves them and hardly ever leaves the blue one except to collect pieces of colored glass to put around it. He uses the red piece on the right as a door when he sleeps. To give you an idea of how small he is, those are grains of aquarium gravel he’s on.
I'll probably be posting at night more often. I've closed the Biomes Center down for at least a month while I move nearly 2,000 animals to the new place and it's quite a job .
Some debate thoughts: I’m a big fan and supporter of the president, but I think The Smiler won this debate, as much as I hate to say it and as much as I believe Romney would be a disaster for this country (hello Bush III). I’ve never seen Obama more nervous and hesitant. And one thing that really bugged me is that Romney mentioned three times the $716 billion dollar cut in Medicare, which is another Republican zombie lie, and the president never refuted it (although this explanation why might be a very good one). AOL had a great live stream of the debate. Jim Lehrer was terrible at stopping the candidates from talking over him.
Which is greater, the number of grains of sand on Earth or the number of stars in the sky? It isn’t even close. If you calculated how many grains of sand are in a teaspoon, and multiply it times all the beaches and deserts on earth you get seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion grains. The number of stars is 70 thousand million, million, million of them. Stars win, but weirdly there are just as many molecules in ten droplets of water as there are stars.
Albino Monday: Meet Migaloo, the albino humpback whale which migrates past New Zealand each year. “Migaloo” means “white fellow” in Australian Aboriginal.
