Biomes and I were featured on Channel 10 in Providence last night as the weekly segment of a foster child report called "Tuesday's Child".
Anyone who knows anything about beekeeping might be able to tell me if this is something I should be worried about. For the past few days the bees have been massing at the entrance and spreading up the front of the hive. The layer is about three bees thick. It has been raining for two days, if that makes a difference, but the mass is increasing upwards each day.
[Update:] This behavior is known as bearding, and is an effort by the collective to keep the queen and larvae at a comfortable temperature and humidity. It occurs at times like the past few days here where the temperature is in the 80's and the humidity is very high.
